- A celebration of the hips
This workshop was centred around how to wake up proprioceptive support responses from within (the core responses within the pelvis) and from without (the limbs in support and the actions around the pelvis) - all for the purposes of taking strain off the groins and lower back. The outcome is a new somatic sense of the hips and how they celebrate in movement. How do these courses differ from each other? That's a big question! Before you experience it the best answer I can give is this: The principles behind my work involve working out how to create the conditions that will allow ANY body to find deeper integration. I have discovered and have been working with 6 fundamental conditions, each of which offers its own path to freedom with practice and time, and each could be considered a 'type' of yoga. But when practiced in conjunction and in natural sequence, effectiveness of practice is off-the-scale, and transformation is inevitable. Also, I am responding in the moment to the live participants, so specific content will be guided by specific groups. Basically, principle-based content is infinitely expandable despite being based on simple principles (in the same way that you can look at the same thing from an infinite number of angles)... I returned to my childhood passion of yoga at the age of 30 in1991, practicing in the 'Scaravelli-inspired' style , and I used the fundamental principle of 'listening to the song of the body' to find my way out of a great deal of chronic physical pain. In the process I discovered that there were other ways of relating to the body, and to life, that can almost instantly relieve the symptoms of a wide range of very common physical issues, and my discoveries have allowed me to help others also become free of theirs. In practicing new relationships, the issues simply fade away, and the historic complications that put the issue in place can simply dissolve in the light , so the natural outcome is nothing less than personal transformation. And this is possible for absolutely anyone that is willing to apply themselves to what I have discovered. I have been sharing my work with people since 1999. Anchor 1 Our proprioceptive nervous system is a sophisticated part of our sensory intelligence, that is not only responsible for know where parts of ourselves are in space in relationship to each other, but it is also capable of mapping out the actual space around us. The way we physically respond to the space we occupy is written by each of our uniquely individual histories - causing us to retract from contact or from space in some parts of ourselves, and to push defiantly outwards in others. All of us hold combinations these patterns of responses in the way we move and breathe, which in turn dictates how we feel within ourselves. This is where an intelligent approach to Yoga can step in - If we can become directly present to how we are physically relating to space we occupy, we can objectively shift our engagements. The result will be an entirely different experience of our environment, which leads to an entirely different experience of being in our bodies . What to expect : On the introductory workshops, I will offer general guidance on the practical aspects of 'working with space' together with an overview of some of the most common 'retractions' that lead to postural holding patterns. The pause, in space & time Course 6 - Letting go into the outcome About Marc Marc J Acquaviva has been passionate about yoga since his early childhood (since 1968), and from 1991 he studied and practiced exclusively with people that have worked directly with Vanda Scaravelli, such as Diane Long and Sophy Hoare, as well as with the highly respected osteopaths that have been called to further understanding of her work, such as Pete Blackaby and John Stirk. During his intensive yoga study years, in the spirit of following Vanda Scaravelli's influences, Marc also explored and has drawn from other wellbeing practices, such as Feldenkrais Qi Gong and Thai yoga massage. After 8 years or so he eventually decided to teach, and qualified in 2000 with Natural Bodies of Brighton, doing Gary Carter's anatomy for yoga course. He developed his own unique take on the work after suffering from a prolapsed disc during training. The prolapse meant he wasn't able to walk, but he found that it was possible, through his own innate somatic sense of the body-relationships involved, to relieve the symptoms and restore function... He 'healed' the prolapse for himself within a few weeks, and has been developing and using his unique approach to help others ever since.

These workshops are informal, informative and based on the needs of participants. So feel free to turn up with questions about a particular posture, or an area of the body you have trouble with - anything really and answers to your question will be incorporated in what we practice... And whatever we explore it will be for the discovery and enjoyment of new, natural and harmonious relationships between ourselves and the body, so there is always an approach to postures that means there is a version for everyone from initiate to seasoned teacher... Themes usually build into an elegant flow class that expresses the harmony of the relationships we have uncovered. There is always time for a guided deep relaxation at the end to integrate things. Also if you are a yoga teacher looking for how to run groups online - I have a great deal of experience, and you could pick some tricks up as well as have a deep and meaningful experience. I have been teaching groups of people online and live for over 10 years now, and I have always been surprised at how much I can actually pick up through the screen. A live and interactive place on these workshops means I can respond directly to your questions and your practice, and with the live places limited to just 12, I will be able to see everyone clearly enough on my large screen to be able to pick up on what is needed just as if it was a workshop in a studio. You also get the view of my lovely garden, so you get a 'retreat' feel from being with me as I guide you through your pratice. NB. if you are unable to book a live and interactive place it means these places have sold out, but you can always choose a 'view-only' place - you can still be there for the live event and you still get access to the recording - all for half price.
